Wells are regulated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, both private and public water well programs. For specific information about these programs you can visit the following website that the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has provided: Drinking Water and Groundwater. After viewing this website, if you have additional questions, you can contact the private water supply specialist, Zoe McManama, for the Kenosha County area at 414-263-8626, or email her at Zoe.McManama@Wisconsin.gov.
The Kenosha County Department of Planning and Development does not require a well permit to be issued prior to well construction but the Department of Natural Resources does. You can obtain a pre-construction well permit at any retail outlet that sells hunting and fishing licenses to the general public. You can speak to your Wisconsin licensed well driller about this process or contact the Department of Natural Resources for additional information.
If you are interested in having your well water tested you can visit the Kenosha County Division of Health Laboratory website for more about this procedure.
