Kenosha County Veterans Services Office to host Wills and Power of Attorney Clinic on May 12

To assist area military veterans and their eligible dependents, the Kenosha County Veterans Services Office is hosting a Wills and Power of Attorney Clinic on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the North 3 Conference Room at the Kenosha County Job Center, 8600 Sheridan Road, Kenosha. Refreshments will be provided.

This free program is sponsored by the State Bar of Wisconsin’s pro bono program, in partnership with Tabak Law, LLC.

Several volunteer attorneys will be on site to advise and provide free estate planning documents to participants. These free documents will include last will and testament, financial power of attorney, power of attorney for health care and living wills.

“Estate planning is an important thing to do for people of all ages,” said Kenosha County Veterans Service Officer Ali Nelson. “This clinic offers a great, free opportunity for veterans to receive the assistance they deserve.”

To qualify for the program, an individual must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a veteran or the spouseSubtitles/surviving spouse of a veteran (documentation will be required prior to the day of the clinic).
  • Be a single veteran with an income of less than $3,000 per month, or a married couple with a combined income of less than $6,000 per month.
  • Have less than $650,000 in total assets for a single person or less than $1.3 million in total assets for a married couple.

Participants must sign up in advance and complete an estate planning questionnaire prior to April 27, 2018. In addition, married couples must sign up for two separate time slots for the day of the clinic. Each spouse will have their own time slot to work with separate attorneys.
