Testing kits available for residents with submerged wells

Many residents’ wells have been submerged during the recent flooding in Kenosha County.

For those who wish to test their well water, test kits are available at the former Silver Lake Village Hall, 113 S. First St., until 7 p.m. Saturday (July 15) and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (July 16). Test kits can be turned in at the Salem Lakes Village Hall, 9814 Antioch Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Samples will be tested by the Kenosha County Division of Health for free.

If you know that your well was submerged, you can simply disinfect your well – it will need it.  Please refer to this resource from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for disinfecting instructions: http://dnr.wi.gov/files/pdf/pubs/dg/dg0003.pdf.

The Red Cross will be at the former Silver Lake Village Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday (July 16) to continue meeting with affected residents from all over Kenosha County and distribute cleaning kits.
